ध्यायतो विषयान्पुंसः सङ्गस्तेषूपजायते।
सङ्गात् संजायते कामः कामात्क्रोधोऽभिजायते।।2.62।।
dhyāyato viṣhayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣhūpajāyate
saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho ’bhijāyate
अर्थ: विषयों के बारे में सोचते रहने से मनुष्य को उनसे लगाव हो जाता है। लगाव से इच्छा पैदा होती है, और इच्छा पूरी न होने से गुस्सा आता है।
Meaning: When a person dwells on the objects of the senses, attachment to them arises; from attachment comes desire, and from desire comes anger.
आपूर्यमाणमचलप्रतिष्ठं
समुद्रमापः प्रविशन्ति यद्वत्।
तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे
स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी।।2.70।।
āpūryamāṇam achala-pratiṣhṭhaṁ
samudram āpaḥ praviśhanti yadvat
tadvat kāmā yaṁ praviśhanti sarve
sa śhāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī
अर्थ: जैसे नदियाँ भरे हुए, स्थिर समुद्र में आकर समा जाती हैं और वह अपनी जगह से नहीं हिलता, वैसे ही जिसमें सारी इच्छाएँ समा जाती हैं, वह शांति पाता है; इच्छाओं के पीछे भागने वाला नहीं।
Meaning: One who receives all desires as the ocean receives the waters, staying full yet unmoved, attains peace; not one who longs for desires.
श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात्।
स्वधर्मे निधनं श्रेयः परधर्मो भयावहः।।3.35।।
śhreyān swa-dharmo viguṇaḥ para-dharmāt sv-anuṣhṭhitāt
swa-dharme nidhanaṁ śhreyaḥ para-dharmo bhayāvahaḥ
अर्थ: दूसरे का धर्म अच्छी तरह निभाने से अपना धर्म कम गुणों वाला होकर भी बेहतर है। अपने धर्म में मरना भी अच्छा है; दूसरे का धर्म डर से भरा है।
Meaning: Better is one's own dharma, even imperfectly done, than the dharma of another well done. Better is death in one's own dharma; the dharma of another is full of fear.
श्री भगवानुवाच
काम एष क्रोध एष रजोगुणसमुद्भवः।
महाशनो महापाप्मा विद्ध्येनमिह वैरिणम्।।3.37।।
śhrī bhagavān uvācha
kāma eṣha krodha eṣha rajo-guṇa-samudbhavaḥ
mahāśhano mahā-pāpmā viddhyenam iha vairiṇam
अर्थ: श्रीभगवान बोले: रजोगुण से पैदा हुई यह कामना है, यही क्रोध है। यह सब कुछ निगल जाने वाली और बड़ी पापी है। इसे ही यहाँ अपना शत्रु जानो।
Meaning: The Blessed Lord said: It is desire, it is anger, born of the quality of rajas, all-devouring and very sinful. Know this to be the enemy here.
यदृच्छालाभसन्तुष्टो द्वन्द्वातीतो विमत्सरः।
समः सिद्धावसिद्धौ च कृत्वापि न निबध्यते।।4.22।।
yadṛichchhā-lābha-santuṣhṭo dvandvātīto vimatsaraḥ
samaḥ siddhāvasiddhau cha kṛitvāpi na nibadhyate
अर्थ: जो अपने आप मिली चीज़ में संतुष्ट है, सुख-दुख जैसे जोड़ों से ऊपर है, ईर्ष्या से मुक्त है, और सफलता-असफलता में एक-सा रहता है, वह कर्म करके भी नहीं बँधता।
Meaning: Content with whatever comes unasked, beyond the pairs of opposites, free from envy, even-minded in success and failure, such a person is not bound even when acting.
अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव च।
निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी।।12.13।।
adveṣhṭā sarva-bhūtānāṁ maitraḥ karuṇa eva cha
nirmamo nirahankāraḥ sama-duḥkha-sukhaḥ kṣhamī
अर्थ: जो किसी प्राणी से नफ़रत नहीं करता, सबका मित्र है और दयालु है, "मेरा" और "मैं" के भाव से मुक्त है, सुख-दुख में एक-सा है, क्षमा करने वाला है,
Meaning: One who has no hatred for any being, who is friendly and compassionate, free from the sense of "mine" and from ego, the same in pleasure and pain, forgiving,
त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मनः।
कामः क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्त्रयं त्यजेत्।।16.21।।
tri-vidhaṁ narakasyedaṁ dvāraṁ nāśhanam ātmanaḥ
kāmaḥ krodhas tathā lobhas tasmād etat trayaṁ tyajet
अर्थ: कामना, गुस्सा और लालच, ये तीन नरक के दरवाज़े हैं, जो आत्मा का नाश करते हैं। इसलिए इन तीनों को छोड़ देना चाहिए।
Meaning: Desire, anger and greed: these are the three gates of hell, destructive of the self. Therefore one should give up these three.
